How Much Marketing do Real Estate Firms do for Clients?

Q - Is there an average amount of money that real estate firms spend on their clients'  listed properties?  Is it better to list with a larger franchise company as opposed to a smaller local firm?

A - Real estate firms don't directly spend any advertising/marketing dollars on their clients' listings.  So, from that perspective,  it doesn't matter if you choose a large or small firm.  It is more important which agent you select.

It is the real estate agent who pays for all your advertising and marketing expenses.  The agent pays for the cost of the listing, signs on your property, lock boxes, print ads, websites and everything else required to do the job for you.  Among these other things are such items as error and omissions insurance, car insurance, gas, cell phones, personal computers, printers and more.  Real estate agents are independent contractors and are considered self-employed.  If they don't sell your property, they can't recoup their expenses.

So, if you want to know what kind of marketing program will be instituted for your property, discuss this with an agent.  In fact, discuss is with several agents and then pick the agent that you feel will do the best job for you.  Make a list of question beforehand to be sure you cover all your topics.  This will help you make the right decision.
