The Home Inspection

Q - I'm in the process of purchasing a home and I'm told that I should have a home inspection.  Is there any problem in using my uncle to check the house?  He has some construction experience.

A - Let me put it this way.  You are probably making the largest purchase of your life.  You want to be as sure as possible that your home is sound and has no structural issues. 

You want to know the condition of the roof.  The plumbing and electrical systems also need an experienced eye.  There are numerous areas that are examined by a professional home inspector.  There are limitations to what the home inspector can do but his experience is generally far greater than that of any family member or friend. 

A home inspection is cheap insurance for such a large investment.
